Pretty Words Book Blog and Book Reviews

Book Blog and Book Reviews

Confession: I’m an out-of-control TBR hoarder … Like many of you, my TBR (To-Be-Read) list is miles long and continuously building. There are always intriguing new releases popping up, and it seems as though I’ll never conquer this ever-growing list of mine! So, I have made it a point to start tackling some of the “older” books on my TBR … ones that seem AMAZING, but have somehow gotten lost in this crazy, book-hoarding shuffle. After sifting through my list, here are 25 reads that I MUST get to soon:

1. Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

I’ve had Gillian Flynn’s 3 books on my TBR for over a year and have only recently read Gone Girl and Dark Places — which I LOVED…obsessively. This author, with her boldly twisted stories and untouchable writing, quickly jumped to favorite-author status. I’m excited to read Sharp Objects, yet reluctant to run out of Gillian Flynn books. But I can’t stay away!

2. The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller by L.B. Simmons

I actually can’t wait to get to this one, and I’m not sure what has taken me so long. After browsing reviews, it seems to have quite the check list: emotionally gripping, unique plot; darker issues; romance, and humor.

3. Reclaiming the Sand by Meredith Walters

In this case, it seems like we a get a thorough glimpse into the mind of the bully.

4. Arsen by Mia Asher

8. Hate List by Jennifer Brown

A good friend of mine recommended this book to me a while back. This story involves a difficult subject: dealing with the aftermath of a school shooting, but I’m certain offers important messages throughout.

9. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

I’m pretty sure this book needs no introduction, since it’s now a hit television series. I’ve wanted to read this series for a long time, but it’s pretty lengthy and I needed the time to dedicate. I definitely want to get to these books before I watch the show!

10. There is No Light in Darkness (Darkness #1) by Claire Contreras

Said to be a steamy, emotional romance novel with a little bit of mystery and suspense. Plus, the cover is beautiful 😉

This seems like a beautifully emotional read with relatable characters. Two girls facing the trials of life: “As their worlds change around them, Jill and Mandy must learn to both let go and hold on, and that nothing is as easy — or as difficult — as it seems.”
I’ve been wanting to try something by this author for a while.

12. Fighting Redemption by Kate McCarthy

This is another book I’ve had on my TBR for well over a year. The chilling premise is intriguing: A young girl commits suicide and leaves clues/letters to those left behind…those who’ve wronged her. Showing how every cruel word spoken can cause a heartbreaking chain of events.

I read the first book in this series, Thoughtless, well over a year ago, and although I loved, it definitely sent my emotions into overdrive. I needed a break from all the angst and eventually, this book ended up getting lost in my TBR list. But I really do want to finish this series!

18. Ballads of Suburbia by Stephanie Kuehnert

This book’s synopsis has always intrigued me, namely, this line: Intensely powerful and utterly engaging, Ballads of Suburbia explores the heartbreaking moments when life changes unexpectedly, and reveals the consequences of being forced to grow up too soon. Seems like a great coming-of-age.

19. A Voice in the Wind (Mark of the Lion, #1) by Francine Rivers

I was so impressed by this author’s Christian-Fiction historical, Redeeming Love, and have since been wanting to try more of her work. This sounds like a beautiful trilogy!

20. Dearest Clementine by Lex Martin

This has been huge hit or a miss between many of my book buddies, but it seems like a romantic NA novel that I would enjoy. The blurb intrigues me, as does the adorable title. Hoping to get to this one soon!

A love story of overcoming grief and loss. This book is said to be delicately powerful and raw, with beautiful writing. Really looking forward to this one!

22. Willow by Julia Hoban

This cover speaks to me about pain, torment, and loneliness. And the synopsis reinforces that: A young girl who has lost her parents turns to cutting as a way of emotional release. And a boy just as sensitive and complicated as she is.

23. Surviving Raine (Surviving Raine, #1) by Shay Savage

A love story of survival. Includes an angry alpha hero, and a sweet, understanding heroine. Sounds highly intense and emotional.

24. & 25. The Reason is You & Before and Ever Since by Sharla Lovelace

I’ve been wanting to read something by Sharla Lovelace for a while, and these two love stories seem intriguing! I especially like that there’s a paranormal element woven in.

Oh, I’m thrilled to hear you enjoyed Lovelace’s book and Mean Streak! I’ll prob read Mean Streak first since it seems intense (which I love) and a Lovelace novel to follow up.

As for Outlander, are u watching the series? Maybe I’ll just skip ahead to the TV series. I don’t get to read as often as I’d like. That series may take me half a year to finish! lol
