My Rating: 4 of 5 stars
Twisted sucked me into its awesomeness immediately, creating all kinds of tension, suspense, and intrigue within the first chapter alone. I fell in love with its unique cast of characters and I was even grateful for the derranged ones who allowed the story to remain so true to its name!
The story begins with a bang. Literally– Maya gets hit by a car. She’s ok! Thanks to her sexy, mysterious savior, Ben, who pulls her out of harms way then runs for the hills when he learns her identity. Maya was rendered both entranced and confused by Ben’s odd behavior and, frankly, so was I. Maya finds herself drawn to him, but she quickly learns that Ben has a past that haunts his future, as he goes out of his way to avoid her.
Ben’s character was a lonely, misunderstood, social outcast and I loved every bit of him! The torment he received from his fellow classmates was unbearable, but paled in comparison to the torment he placed upon himself. Maya’s character was refreshingly strong and I admired her immensely for never once succumbing to the peer pressure surrounding her. There were many funny moments that lightened the tone to this otherwise serious story, and I appreciated the overall message against bullying that was so strongly conveyed.
The pacing of this story was perfection. I never felt bored nor rushed and the mystery/suspense element was very entertaining. I was hoping for a little more development in the aftermath between Maya and Ben, but I was very happy with the sweet and gratifying epilogue. Great read!
